@lfred Chamie.

Subject: hey

I was so surprised when my brother called me from Johannesburg – South Africa and told me to go on the internet and check Kobayat.org website.

To be honest, I did not believe him I thought it was a joke. So you can imagine my amazement when I opened the website. I was speechless!

What caught my attention at first were two things: 1- the music and   2- the big cross in the middle of the page.

I had tears in my eyes and could not believe it! I am originally from Kobayat but now married to an American and living in Saudi Arabia. So maybe you understand now more why these two things.

But then again I started browsing for hours and left my husband in the other room alone…. I just could not log off. I feel so lonely lots of times and wish I can go back to Lebanon and live there for ever.

Despite the desire of the majority of the young generation in Lebanon to leave the country and go somewhere else, I never had the desire but things do happen sometimes and did leave to pursue my life elsewhere. Nevertheless I never stopped thinking about Lebanon and life there, my family and my friends, my old wrecked car (I had a very old almost destroyed car back then). I don’t know how people make it, cuz me, I barely can… I cry almost everyday even though I have been married for almost two years and I have a great husband who treats me like a princess, but still being an American he can not understand the magic of Fairuz songs and the greatness of the Lebanese soil.

There are lots of things I would like to talk to him about and explain but still there are certain things that can not be cherished unless you are a Lebanese…

I am sorry for babbling like this for ever, what I really wanted to say is THANK YOU so much for this page. It made me cry but also it made me so happy. I book marked it and sent this website address to all my friends here and elsewhere.

Now I know whenever I have the blues I can always log on the internet and visit home.

Thank you so much

To my village on this special day, To all those who are proud, coming from Kobayat, Eid el sayde : Saydet el Ghessalé 15th of August, is a special day for every one of us.

Beleive i remember year by year and day by day, each of those days i spent with the friends in « our village of dreams ».

I remember how we used to say goodbye to our parents from the beginning of august till the end of september.

Each summer had its pown beauty, his own souvenirs, his own joy.

All those sketches on the wooden theatre at the door of the church of the ‘Deir’…the camps we used to do in

a different area of our beautiful village.

Mouach, Mourghan, Laou’a, Nabe’e el Joz, Ein el Set, Nabe’e el Abiad, … and every moment spent in every forgotten corner of those hills, where the wind sings and the trees dance, and the nature behaves with madness, in a joyfull way, printing our memories with all those pictures, and good habits, loyalty and faithfulness, love and pride, religion and good behaviour of a boy-scout…

I’m proud i was brought up in a village like mine, Kobayat…

I just wanted to wish a very happy 3eid el Saydé.

May the Virgin Mary, bless you all.

Cher Elie Abboud,
